I remember countless quarters being plunged into the arcade machine at our roller skating rink as I, with a friend or two would just try and get as far as we could till our pockets ran dry on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Once I got it for the Nintendo, my world changed and I learned at a young age that game was beyond brutal and hard. My brother and I would play Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for hours, just to get to Shredder… and then die. Three lives just wasn’t enough, but you had to play carefully and cautiously. Both agreeing, that the three lives weren’t enough. Not stating that the other levels weren’t an easy ride either.
With each turtle having their own unique weapon and of course having advantages and disadvantages with each turtle. Leonardo and Donatello having a somewhat range attack with the swords and Bo staff, while Michaelangelo and Raphael having short range weapons with the nunchucks and sais. Of course with the shorter range you were deeper in danger of getting hit than the other two. That’s why we used the mighty jump kick to save yourself from getting that close to danger. At times, the high jump kick would fail and get hit midair. Each level being unique and with a boss battle at the end of the level. Bebop and Rocksteady being the easiest to beat to fighting Baxter Stockman as a fly, Granitor, General Traag, who was a rock soldier who usually beat me several times. To finally face the Technodrone and fighting Shredder and Krang. This game I still play on a regular basis and with much discomfort, as I still can’t beat Shredder or Krang. Maybe one day.
