First, we heard from Emily Rogers that there is a very big possibility that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be delayed… and now we’ve heard it from several other sources (Eurogamer, and Laura Kate Dale of Let’s Play via Twitter).

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Emily, in her blog post, stated “that the localization for the game was becoming more work than anyone had anticipated” due to “all of the game’s text, NPCs, quests, etc.” This was possible to be expected. I mean, this is the most grand Legend of Zelda game to date, so of course they may run into a few problems. It’s the largest open-world Zelda EVER, rivaling that of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (which was an inspiration for Breath of the Wild).

It looks as though localization won’t be completed until December, and then after that, they will need to allow 4-6 months of testing. With the game being in development for so long, of course Nintendo wants to release it with little to no bugs or glitches. This is something new to the Zelda franchise, so it makes perfect sense that Nintendo would want everything about it to be near perfect. With them taking this whole new direction, they cannot leave room for error. Another thing to note from Emily’s information is that the game was running more smoothly on the Switch than that of the Wii U.

Laura Kate of Let’s Play Video Games said in her Tweet, ““Breath of the Wild missing the Switch launch lines up with info I had heard but not multi sourced. Don’t expect it in March.” So it’s easy to say that most likely The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild WILL NOT be a launch title for the Nintendo Switch, which is set to hit stores in March 2017. So a summer 2017 release maybe?

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

This will be the second Nintendo console in a row that has launched without a Legend of Zelda title. Zelda is one, if not the most popular gaming franchises Nintendo has, so it makes or breaks a console whether they have that game at launch or not. We all see how fantastically the Wii U did (sarcasm). I mean, personally, I love my Wii U, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed with what games have released on it. As far as Zelda games go, all we got were remasters, which are okay, but for a console to thrive, we need “new”, not “rehashed”. With all of the issues they are coming across now on the Wii U with the new Zelda game, it really makes me wonder if we will even see The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the Wii U at all.

So what are your thoughts on this whole debacle? I mean, for me, it’s a double-edged sword… I want my new Zelda game, and I want it like yesterday, but at the same time, I want a game that is flawless and perfect at its launch. Only time will tell, but feel welcomed to stay in tune here and get all the latest on Zelda, the Nintendo Switch, and all things else gaming!
